Rik Schutte is Lead Animator on Sprite Fright, the new Open Movie now in production. One of Rik's tasks is introducing new animators to the project. This includes videos explaining Sprite Fright's approach to animation, as well as written documentation.

Recently, Rik shared the Sprite Fright style guide, which Cloud subscribers can download here. In it, Rik delves into the creative and technical choices that led to the film's stop-motion feel.

The guide covers a range of topics. For instance, while Sprite Fright is mostly shot on 2s, Rik lays out exceptions -- for example, mixing in 1s when ultra-fast motion is required. He also covers guidelines for cartoony posing, when to use bendy limbs, smears and multiples, and how to treat facial expressions.

Taken together, the style guide provides an insight into Blender Studio's creative process, and inspiration for animators. Get it here.
