1
00:00:00.010 --> 00:00:05.000
The knife tool is a modeling tool you can use to form new edge loops and vertices.

2
00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:09.000
To use it, simply go into the modeling workspace or go into edit mode.

3
00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:13.000
Then select the knife tool from the quick tools menu on the left.

4
00:00:13.000 --> 00:00:20.000
From there, you can either left click drag or tap left click to begin cutting into your mesh.

5
00:00:20.000 --> 00:00:26.000
You may notice at this time that there is still a purplish pinkish line attached to your cursor after drawing.

6
00:00:26.000 --> 00:00:32.000
To disengage this knife tool drawing mode, simply double left click or press E.

7
00:00:32.000 --> 00:00:35.000
This will then allow you to continue drawing if you so choose.

8
00:00:35.000 --> 00:00:41.000
However, I do warn you not to right click during this stage as it will cancel the cuts you have just made.

9
00:00:41.000 --> 00:00:46.000
To fully confirm the cuts you have made, simply press space bar or enter.

10
00:00:46.000 --> 00:00:53.000
As you can see, the visual style of the edge loops and vertices you have drawn have now matched the original mesh.

11
00:00:53.000 --> 00:00:55.000
This means they are fully applied.

12
00:00:55.000 --> 00:01:03.000
For further details about the knife tool, simply reference the bottom bar of the UI while you have the knife tool activated.

13
00:01:03.000 --> 00:01:12.000
Now, if you've ever wanted to cut anything in half, similar to a cross section, you would want to use the bisect tool, one of the knife tools sub tools.

14
00:01:12.000 --> 00:01:17.000
To use it, simply left click drag the knife tool in the quick tools menu on the left.

15
00:01:17.000 --> 00:01:21.000
This will open up a sub menu that includes bisect.

16
00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:24.000
Hover over the bisect option and release your left click.

17
00:01:24.000 --> 00:01:29.000
From here, you can simply draw a line or cut across your mesh.

18
00:01:29.000 --> 00:01:32.000
This will represent where you want to cut your mesh in half.

19
00:01:32.000 --> 00:01:37.000
Afterwards, a gizmo should appear that will allow you to adjust your cut.

20
00:01:37.000 --> 00:01:42.000
However, the most important settings are in the operator panel in the bottom left hand corner.

21
00:01:42.000 --> 00:01:46.000
Simply expand this and adjust the settings as you see fit.

22
00:01:46.000 --> 00:01:54.000
But most importantly, these checkboxes will allow you to fill the face that you cut open, as well as select which side of the cut you would like to keep.

23
00:01:54.000 --> 00:01:59.000
Both the knife tool and the bisect tool can be very helpful for editing your mesh.
