Project Gold Premiere

The Blender Studio team is proud to release Project Gold, a technical showcase focused on stylized rendering, along with an add-on designed exclusively to achieve a painterly look.

A workshop on using the add-on, along with all characters, environments, and other production files, is available by subscribing to the Blender Studio website.

The Brushstroke Tools add-on

Originally developed during the production of Project Gold, the brushstroke tools are a set of Geometry Nodes-based tools useful for creating a variety of stylized looks in asset production. Available as an add-on, these tools provide a convenient interface for creating, managing, and editing layers of 3D brushstrokes generated procedurally.

The Stylized Rendering Workshop

Join Simon Thommes --lead artist at Blender Studio, and the main developer of the brushstroke tech-- in the Stylized Rendering with Brushstrokes workshop, where he provides a deep overview of the tools, with tips, tricks and practical examples on how to use them.

About the project

Originally begun as a short film directed by Jericca Cleland, the project's production was later refocused to a showcase for the new tools and technologies developed to achieve the sophisticated painterly look that makes the film so unique. Jericca is still working on the full short, and with her team, she will be able to take full advantage of the now more mature production tools to complete it. The collaboration has been beneficial to both the film's creative and look development process and valuable to Blender's evolution in tools for stylized image production. We fully support Jericca's creative vision and wish her the best as she continues the project!
