The week after BCON25! Most of the team turned into a snot infested flu zombie horde and had to stay home. Hjalti, Pablico, Rik, Demeter and Julien heroically defied the virulent forces and kept crittering on!
This week, after getting sick, recovering and back on my feet to the studio, I've managed to add a few more shots to sequence 060 'Dance' This sequence is almost done now, some small tweaks here and there. I've also added sequence 040 'Edge' which still need some back ground critters. Then move on the next one!
The last remaining character assets are being modeled and ready for rigging.
This week I worked on new shots on the seq 050 trying to set them up flowing the layout and later improving them by adding new animation beats and poses, still WIP I will be finish them next week.
This week I focused on the 090 scene, making a rough version of Critter and the creatures swimming in the front of the swarm. I used mockup geometry for the swarm and used previs elements, pending the final props being ready.
It is one week before the Blender Conference! Most of the team are busy working on presentations, demos, last minute designs and various assets for the next Blender release. Our trusty animators however are chipping away at their shots and bringing our universe to life. Expect more after BCON25!
This week I mostly did additional animation required for shots in scene 020. I also animated an updated version of Critter's fast swimcycle and started work on scene 090.
This week I continued with seq 050, I animated a couple of shots, and I was also busy preparing for the Bcon
Two weeks before Blender Conference, the animators are working hard to deliver final shots. 'One', the giant jellyfish gets high res with a new design for the close-up tendrils, critter is swimming as fast as he can and the background creatures get animation cycles.
I'm currently working on contributing to the compositor assets project, so I couldn't work on the film full-time (other than giving the animators more work to do :). Next week is Blender Conference so unfortunately a lot of work will have to wait until it's over. We do have a new version of the edit with a lot of new animation in it though!
Not too much happened on my end since there was some BCON stuff to prepare this week, but I got to explore the close up version of One's tendrils.
This week I animated more shots from scene 020, pushing some of them to polish and other ones being blocked out.
The background creatures are all modeled and One is being sculpted in more detail.
This week I was still doing some touches on sequence 030, animating One and also some of the other creatures. On sequence 050 I continued animating some of the shots, going back and forward between them, animating and addressing notes at the same time
This week on Singularity
The first animated sequences are taking shape and our space is populated by more creatures.
The background creatures were all signed off and needed to to be cleaned up and retopologzed. This is also my work from the previous week. I'm not that fast :D
This week I started animating 040 Edge. Next to that I've been testing the rig of the big jelly fish 'One' and requested for some additional features. We've set up the pose library for Critter to allow animators to work more efficiently as well.
This week I continued animating, did a (almost) final pass on the sequence 030, and I started 050
This week I started on the colorscript, painted some black hole fx and character concepts and even got around to sculpting modern day Critter!
My job this week was to feed the animation department with supreme quality (tm) files that contain reference, all the assets and solid file structure courtesy of our Kitsu Shot Builder Add-on. This is a bit of a tedious process, but now the entire movie now has files that are waiting to be animated!
Finished animating Critter in his first big shot. Later in production I will need to revisit this shot and add the food props and background creatures once they are modelled, rigged and ready to be animated. I also animated Critter in the following over-the-shoulder shot, but the big "One" creature will be animated later. I started work on "020_0060" where Critter reacts to a big flash, mostly doing early pose exploration.
This week I did some more technical exploration of how we can handle some of the procedural deformation that we have on One and the background characters.
