The effects for the last few scenes is taking shape, now it's about the nitty gritty details! Simon and Andy are working on the simulated FX setups for the film while Hjalti helps out hand-animating the crucial character energy effects. Vivien is finalizing the textures for the very end of the film.
This week I iterated more on the energy FX. That's for all different levels of visibility, so when it's close up, further away, or really far, throughout the sequences. (More of that in Andy's section of the scene progressions.) Besides that I fixed a bunch of things flickering around and such throughout the film.
Spent a lot of time this week frame-by-framing electricity fx in various shots, hopefully it comes out great in the final rendered version.
I was working on refining the planet transformation, mostly adding more detail after Andy baked down the textures for me to paint on. (Looks like it's all spoilers from here, sorry about that!)
I mainly worked on the black hole breaking effects for the ending of the film as well as many small fixes all over the film.
This week the team has been decimated a bit because of Godot Conference. Nevertheless, work continues on FX and lighting for the film.
This week I animated electricity effects on a shot where Pablo already did the character animation. If the effect looks good and is approved I'll do more shots in the same way next week.
I worked on further integrating the energy blob into the ending sequence. Also, I turned the energy zap effect from Simon into a reusable asset and gave Hjalti a bunch of files to put the effect in.
This week we finally got to see the creature energy effects as well as lots of lighting updates.
I did a lot of tiny lighting and staging updates throughout the whole movie. Creatures swarms are constantly getting tweaked to give us better movement and all the energy effects need to be added to the various shots. The music composition is getting finalised and we need good visuals for the sound effects work. So a lot of the visuals are still temporary but should provide all the timing and visual clues for the sound department to start working!
Animation has officially wrapped! The team is getting into the nitty gritty of simulating swarms of creatures, energy lightning effects. New backgrounds are being painted and the ending of the film is taking shape. We're still far from being finished though!
This week we wrapped animation for Singularity, which means all shots have the main character critter animated, and the most prominent background characters as well. I've worked on the last shot of the film, where we get introduced to a 'new' character. Here you see the blocking and polish pass of the same shot.
This week I kept working on One's transformation. The updates are best viewed in sequence in the video Andy made with the new lighting :)
I worked on many things: More re-lighting the shots. Creating new space backgrounds to replace the temp ones. The main appearance of the Black hole now has a hand painted brush stroke effect. I redid some of the shot staging of 050_contact and the far-away background creatures are represented as little brush stroke critters.
This week I could fully focus my energy on the tendril energy FX that the creatures connect to. This will continue still in the coming weeks, but now we have a good base setup to work with and put it in all the shots.
